Deliberately controversial

November 30, 2013

“You know how people used to need a dog licence?”

“Yeah.”

“I wonder why you don’t need a child licence?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, if you had to get a licence first it might put some people off.”

“Bit controversial perhaps.”

“Might prevent some total idiots from breeding though.”

Underneath the stars

November 29, 2013

It is late. The moon rose hours ago, though I don’t know the time. An owl hollers overhead from its branch in the oak I lean against. Later, I make my leafy bed, warm in summer, though growing colder now. This is where I sleep the best, underneath the stars.

The spy next door

November 28, 2013

I have a new neighbour. His name is George. I think George may be a spy. He doesn’t look like one, because he doesn’t wear a suit. But they always say a good spy is the person you least expect. George is that person, therefore he must be a spy.

The thought that counts

November 27, 2013

“Miss, Miss, I’ve got something for you.”

“How lovely, what is it?”

“It’s an apple from the tree in my back garden.”

“An apple? They’re my favourite!”

The boy produced the ripe red fruit from behind his back, perfect but for a large missing bite.

“Sorry Miss, I was hungry.”

For the rest of forever

November 26, 2013

This is how I want it to be for the remainder of my days. Truly happy. Perfectly content. As if I have arrived at my destination, though my journey has only just begun. If my life were eternal, I would want to feel this way for the rest of forever.

The Amaranthine Girl

November 25, 2013

In her youth she was always the pretty one, with long dark hair and cheeks of apple red. Acquiring the wisdom and experience of age she grew ever more refined. But it was only later in life that she became The Amaranthine Girl, for her magnificent and unfading natural beauty.

Happy birthday, Doctor Who

November 23, 2013

The last fifty years have been challenging at times. Dodging the Daleks, outmanoeuvring The Master and circumventing the Cybermen have all taken their toll. It is true that I have enjoyed the company of a fine assortment of assistants, but I would get nowhere without my trusty servant, the Tardis.

Most of you think I am naturally witty, but in fact my producer scripts my links for me. I don’t even choose the music myself, as you might assume. I am instead slave to the playlist, which is why, every so often, I play the wrong track “by accident”. Oops!
