The ability to self-edit is an extremely important skill. Your potential readers are actively seeking out books to be gripped by, with exciting plot lines and dynamic dialogue. They want to experience the highs and lows of your well developed characters, placed in stories which ultimately leave them wanting more. As a writer it should be your prime concern to create works which compel, and even demand the attention of, your chosen audience, and remaining economical with your word count can only encourage this.
