Are you sitting comfortably?

March 14, 2013

“Once upon a time.” “That’s a terrible start, Grandad,” interrupted Ellie, aged eight. “How would you begin?” “Um,” she thought, “the evening sun filtered through the pine trees, casting faded shadows upon the mysterious girl riding bareback on her impressive white horse.” “Show off,” I teased. Ellie smiled, and continued.

  1. You’ve simultaneously set two great scenes there. I’d love to read one of your [longer] stories to children, I think they’d go down well. Hope you have some in progress!
I love that each fifty words now has an image with it. Did you do Ellie ‘in the style of’ or did you commission it?

Thanks, I really enjoyed writing this one. Wanted it to be completely different from yesterday’s rant. Yes, I have lots of children’s stories in progress – I joined the SCBWI (Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) yesterday, with a view to pushing on my career in that respect. I wish I’d commissioned Ellie, but she’s all my own work!
