No going back

“Call me old fashioned,” announced Julie, “but I don’t want a mobile phone.” This was back in 1990. Fast forward ten years. A bleep distracts me from the piece I’m writing about how developments in technology will dominate the new millennium. A text from Julie: “coffee?” How times have changed.

      I can remember getting my first mobile phone, given to me when I started work at Capital Radio in 1996. But up until then I had no interest in owning one either. And of course, I can’t imagine life without it now.
